It is worth noting that the terminology that we use for the family may, in many cases, be different from what we use in-house.

We have used much more family oriented terminology in the family portal.

We have replaced any places where normally we would refer to ‘The Deceased’ to be replaced with the actual name.
This gives the family a sense of care concerning their loved one rather than the deceased just being one more funeral of many.
The use of codewords in the help and Terms and Conditions to do the same is advised.

Other ways the portal differs from FreeDAM are…

We ask the family if the deceased was born outside of our country rather than just asking them the place of birth and then the country.
This then exposes the Country field and the number of years in the country fields.
i.e we try to limit the amount of information that needs to be looked at.

We have also put in the total number of characters allowed in a field as much as we can as there is nothing more frustrating than entering data and only finding out after you leave the field that the data is too long.

We have removed the term funeral as much as we can as not all family’s have a funeral anymore.

We have tried to make the data entry as easy as possible. A good example of this is the children’s section where we set the sex and relationship of the child for them when they click ‘Add Son’ or ‘Add Daughter’
